Britain’s populist political party, Reform UK, has strengthened its position as the country’s fundraising leader after receiving millions of pounds from wealthy cryptocurrency investors, according to newly released figures from the UK’s Electoral Commission. The donations have allowed Nigel Farage’s party to significantly outpace both the governing Labour Party and the opposition Conservatives, highlighting the growing influence of crypto wealth in British politics and raising new questions about campaign financing and transparency.
In the first quarter of 2026, Reform UK raised approximately £9.3 million, more than double the amount collected by its two main rivals. During the same period, Labour raised around £4 million, while the Conservative Party secured approximately £4.2 million in donations. It marked the third consecutive quarter in which Reform topped Britain’s fundraising rankings, underlining the party’s transformation from a political outsider into a major force in national politics.
A significant share of Reform’s financial success came from two cryptocurrency billionaires. Christopher Harborne donated just over £3 million during the quarter. Harborne, who lives in Thailand but retains British citizenship, has become the party’s biggest financial supporter. Another major contribution came from Ben Delo, who donated £4 million to Reform UK. Together, the two men contributed around £7 million, accounting for most of the party’s fundraising total.
Harborne has become one of the most influential donors in modern British politics. Reports indicate that his contributions to Reform UK and its predecessor organisations now exceed £22 million, representing roughly two-thirds of all donations received by the party since its foundation. His fortune stems from investments in digital assets, including an estimated 12% stake in the stablecoin issuer Tether, as well as interests in aviation and technology businesses.
Delo, meanwhile, is best known as a co-founder of the cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX. He has publicly stated that he became involved in politics for the first time because he believes Britain needs major political and economic reforms. Delo has also announced plans to relocate from Hong Kong back to the United Kingdom, a move that has drawn additional attention to his involvement in British politics.
The large donations have arrived at a crucial moment for Reform UK. The party performed strongly in local elections and has consistently led national opinion polls since early 2025. Opinion surveys suggest Reform commands around a quarter of public support, surpassing both Labour and the Conservatives and making Farage a serious contender for future national leadership.
However, Reform’s fundraising success has also generated controversy. Critics argue that the party is heavily dependent on a small number of wealthy donors, many of whom live outside Britain. The issue has gained political importance because the Labour government announced plans to cap donations from British citizens living abroad at £100,000 annually and to ban donations made through cryptocurrencies. The proposed measures are intended to reduce concerns about the role of overseas money and emerging digital wealth in British politics.
Further scrutiny surrounds Nigel Farage himself. Britain’s parliamentary standards watchdog is investigating whether he should have declared a £5 million personal gift reportedly received from Harborne before entering Parliament. Farage has denied any wrongdoing and argued that the payment was a personal gift that did not require declaration under parliamentary rules. Nevertheless, the investigation has increased attention on the relationship between wealthy donors and political leaders.
Political analysts say Reform UK’s fundraising success demonstrates how fortunes created in the cryptocurrency industry are beginning to influence democratic systems around the world. Digital asset entrepreneurs, once considered outsiders to traditional finance and politics, are increasingly becoming major players in election campaigns and public policy debates.
For Reform UK, the financial backing from crypto billionaires provides a significant advantage as it prepares for the next general election, scheduled for 2029. The donations give the party resources to expand its organisation, increase advertising, and professionalise its campaign operations. At the same time, the controversy surrounding the source of those funds ensures that questions about transparency, accountability, and the influence of money in politics will continue to follow the party’s rapid rise.
