Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for a series of retaliatory attacks against U.S.-linked military facilities in the Gulf following recent American strikes on Iranian territory. Iranian state media reported that missile and drone operations targeted locations associated with the U.S. Fifth Fleet in Bahrain as well as facilities in Kuwait and Jordan.
According to Tehran, the attacks were a direct response to U.S. military operations against radar and air-defense sites along the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials warned that any future strikes on Iranian territory would be met with stronger retaliation.
The United States disputed some Iranian claims, stating that multiple missiles and drones were intercepted before reaching their targets. CENTCOM reported that American and allied air-defense systems successfully neutralized several incoming threats and that there were no confirmed casualties among U.S. personnel.
Military analysts note that claims and counterclaims are common during periods of heightened conflict, making independent verification difficult. Nevertheless, the incident demonstrates Iran’s willingness to challenge U.S. military presence across the Gulf region.
The Fifth Fleet, headquartered in Bahrain, plays a key role in protecting maritime traffic through the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, and the Strait of Hormuz. Any threat against the fleet is closely monitored by regional governments and global energy markets.
Experts warn that continued attacks on military installations could undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts and increase pressure on neighboring Gulf states to strengthen their defenses.
